Summer
By the time I got to the house I knew I never should have come. Hi I’m Anna let me explain myself. It was the brutally hot summer of 2011 and I was going to my grandpa’s house. It all started when I decided I was going to his house for the fourth of July. The plan was to get on the plane fly over have some fun on the lake for twos days. Then my family would come down and we would stay for two days then go home but that plan toke a horrible twist. Here we go.
“Mom I’m all packed lets go,” I yelled at my mom.
“Ok I’m coming let me just get my camera,” She yelled back.
“Gosh you are so slow”
“I heard that”
My mom then came into the room with her camera around her neck and car keys in her hands.
“I’m ready,” She says.
Running my mom and I jumped into the car (already late) and headed to the Chesterfield airport where my grandpa’s waiting with his plane. Two stop lights and one dead animals on the side of the road and where there. My heart was racing, my mind going threw all the different things that could go wrong, we could get lost; we could have a plane problem then fall to the ground and die! No, no more bad thoughts I told my self every thing is going to be fine. As we pulled up to the side of the plane he showed him self, my grandpa walking around the plane with a smile on his face.
It seems like every time I meet him he changes, gets older, more mean looking. “Hey,” I yell over the roar of the engine.
“Hey kiddo,” He yells back.
My mom took the camera off from around her neck. “Ok now, now lets get some pictures then you can go,” My mom says. She already looks teary eyed (gosh why is she so emotional).
I got up by the plane (already feeling weirded out because I never spend time with my grandpa) and we took some pictures. The air out side was boiling and I remembered that there was no air conditioning; this was going to be a very long flight.
“Anna, did you bring your sun glasses,” My mom asked in a almost annoyed tone.
“No I didn’t think I’d need them,” I said back, meaner than I intentioned.
“You know well be going right into the sun on are way there you’ll probably want them.,” My grandpa added.
“Yah well to bad!,” I said answering both of their complaints.
“Just incase you need them you can have mine,” My mom went back to the car to get some pair of her glasses. When she came back noticed she had the ugliest mist horrible things I have ever seen in my life. They looked as if they belonged to a hippy from the 70’s. “Here you go Anna, One last hug and you’re off.”
“Thanks mom but I don’t need them, ill be good. I think I can handle a little sun.”
“But Anna your going to want them when the suns in your eyes,” She just would not quit with those stupid sun glasses.
“Ok fine. By mom”
And that was it. I boarded the plane and she was still there watching us. I put on the stupid glasses (that I still to this day have no clue how she can wear those thing they hurt your head like crazy) and she was still watching us. How cloud she do that! She got out her camera and started to take pictures, of me in the plane, with those ugly glasses. UGGGHHHHH was all I could think. BOOM what was that. A low rumble started to shake the plane. I was freaking out my mind was going crazy.
“What was that,” I asked frantically hoping we weren’t going to die.
“Oh that it’s just the plane, some times it has trouble starting,” My grandpa said as if it was a normal every day thing.
“Oh ok good.”
We were off. For some reason ever since I was a little girl I loved flying, not just in planes but in parasailing and just manly the idea of being in the air. But I have always been deathly afraid of heights (which I find ironic). The flight was only an hour long and the view was beautiful I even got to fly a little (which I learned I am not so good at. BAM another crash, this time I new it was just the tiers hitting the pavement. Unloading the plane and putting it back into its garage was a different story. 1: back half way into the garage. 2: get out and push the dang thing all the way into its spot and let me tell you that was hard work; thankfully I didn’t have to do any of it HA! 3: Go to the car and drive away and back to your home.
When we got back to my grandparents house Bunny and Della where there waiting for us. Let me tell you those dogs are smart they can open doors and stuff its really cool, so they where outside even before I got out of the car. I grabbed my stuff and went through the threshold in to the house. In my mind I visualized a hotel lobby and a reception lady saying “door 2 on your left” the place was so big but there was no reception lady just two crazy dogs.
“Hey Anna,” My grandma said from the kitchen.
My grandpa must still be outside I thought.
“Hey Grandma,” I said running over to give her a hug.
“How was the plane ride?”
“It was really fun but I gotta go put my stuff away. Ill be back!”
I walked to the room where I was staying and started organizing my stuff. Pants here, shirts there, swimsuits in there, ect. In the other room I heard voices but not clear enough that I could hear what they where saying.
I felt so alone in that house so out of place. Woooooosh, crash, plink, plink, plink, the sound off glass hitting the floor exploded through out the house. Then there was a thud and it was quiet. I ran out into the kitchen- feeling like it was all happening in slow motion- where id heard the noise my grandma was lying on the floor motion less no sign off life.
“Help me, someone help” I screamed ever ounce of panic in my head, my heart was pounding I knew I had to help her but how? How could I get her help? I ran out of the kitchen into the hall where I’d seen the phone. Running as fast as I could I leaped toward the phone knocking it off onto the floor. I picked it up and putt it on my ear. No tone, nothing. The line was dead. I ran out of the House into the dirt road hoping, praying someone would drive by but I knew the truth there would be no cars for days. Nobody drove this road it was a no out lit with only about 4 houses and all of them where owned by my family nobody lived there, they where empty all off them. Looking around I thought where is my grandpa’s car it was here now it’s gone. Did he leave? Did he go some where? What’s going on?
I ran back inside the house just as night was falling and I felt scared and hungry all I wanted to do was go back home. The house was horrific my grandma’s blood was all over the floor spilling from where, where, someone threw a vase at her it looked like. But who would do that?
“Help me,” I heard a tiny whisper from the floor where she lay.
“I’m trying gran I really am, hold on ok? Just hold on! Do you know who did this?”
My grandma froze, fear shot on her face, she was look at something behind me. She started to point vigorously at that thing.
“What is it gran,” I asked looking around to see.
Black Out.
I guess what I never told you in the beginning was that I’m not really here I’m not alive but I’m dead if that’s what you call it. When my family got to the house they found nothing we (my grandma and I) where on a remote part of the lake where we were tied to a weight ad thrown down to the bottom were the fishy’s would nibble at us. My family, still to this day as no clue what happened. I asked my grandma why grandpa did that to us and she told me that he was getting greedy and that grandma wanted to leave with there money but he said no, so he killed her. So I guess the morel of this story is that not all family is good some can be bad. Till then I will try and get the truth out because he is still roaming free unlike me.
